He is the founding director of the famous Vision,
Touch and Hearing Research Institute. He has written
many of the most influential papers in his field and
received numerous awards and prizes. Since 1988 he
is a fellow of the Royal Society of London, the world’s
oldest and most prestigious scientific academy. His
scientific interest in rock paintings was stimulated
when he visited Faraway Bay in 2008.
Lee Scott-Virtue, Dean Goodgame
Lee Scott-Virtue studierte Archäologie und
Geschichte und ist heute als Archäologin,
Umweltaktivistin und Künstlerin tätig. In den
letzten Jahren verfolgt sie insbesondere die Effekte
des durch die Regierung von Westaustralien
initiierte Programm zur kontrollierten Brandrodung
auf die Flora und Fauna, besonders aber auch auf
die kulturellen Stätten wie Felsbilder-Galerien. Seit
über dreißig Jahren registriert sie Felsmalereien
in den unzugänglichsten Gebieten der Kimberley-
Region und berät mit ihrer großen Erfahrung
staatliche und private Organisationen bei der
Durchführung archäologischer Projekte.
Dean Goodgame ist ein Fotograf, passionierter
Archäologe, Höhlenforscher und Umweltaktivist. Vor
siebzehn Jahren begleitete er als Fotograf Lee zum
ersten Mal auf einer Expedition und unterstützt
sie seither bei der digitalen Aufarbeitung des
umfassenden Bildmaterials über Flora, Fauna und
Felsbilder der Kimberley-Region.
Beide sind ausgesprochen erfahrene Exploratoren
der unwegsamen Region und teilen, mittlerweile
als Paar, die Leidenschaft für ihre unermessliche
biologische und kulturelle Vielfalt. Sie arbeiten sehr
eng mit der indigenen Bevölkerung zusammen und
engagieren sich für den Erhalt dieser Vielfalt und
deren Schutz. Dazu haben sie zwei Organisationen
zum Schutz und zur wissenschaftlichen
Aufarbeitung der Biodiversität und des kulturellen
Erbes gegründet.
Lee is a professional archaeologist with degrees
in archaeology and history, an artist and active
environmentalist, monitoring impacts of the Western
Australia state governments aerial burning program
on cultural heritage sites, flora and fauna across
the Kimberley. Lee has been walking remote areas of
the Kimberley for over thirty years recording rock art
and other archaeological sites and has worked as a
research consultant on various archaeological and
environmental projects throughout the Kimberley.
Dean is a professional photographer, amateur
archaeologist, caver and also an active
environmentalist. Dean began working with Lee
seventeen years ago, photographing the rock art,
flora and fauna and digitally recording the vast
amount of data accumulated over 33 years of
independent research.
Husband and wife team, Lee and Dean are
experienced bushwalkers and share a passion for the
vast natural and cultural diversity of the Kimberley.
They have both worked closely with indigenous
people and continue to be involved in many of the
serious issues impacting on the unique Kimberley
cultural and natural heritage areas. They are the
founders of two charitable environmental and
research organisations to facilitate and sponsor
general biodiversity and cultural research in the
Kimberley.
